How to reset the trip ?
Brake Controller into Emergency
OR
Press the Manual Reset button on top of the trip Valve
(Or you can operate the 3rd cock - 6 cocks in a box)
(B.P pressure must fall below 25 kPa for the trip valve to reset)
Dividing and attaching: Driver must:
-,STOP 1m short of stopping mark
- Make a PA (detrain)
- Secure cab (so its non operational)
- Ensure train lined Park Brakes applied (if applicable)
- Remain in the cab (to assist dividing driver)
What is the max speed when attaching trains?
2 - 4kms/ h
Can a driver perform a brake continuity test after attaching on their own? What must they do?
No
They must do a full prep
Can I attach to a stabled train?
No
Do not under any circumstances attach to a stabled train. We must light the other train up first (reactivate cab) and then attach
What are the sub-units of the VICERS system?
-Vigilance Control System
(110vDC Battery Back up)
- VM40 Event recorder
- Roof Mounted GPS
How long does VICERS light flash for when timing cycle has advanced ?
5 seconds
An audible buzzer will sound for a further 5 secs
Then the cycle will expire and EMY brake will be applied
Full cab unattended procedure for changing ends
- Pa? (Not for wheelchair pax)
- Raise trip
- Brake controller in EMY (this resets trip)
- Brake controller back to step 7 (BP charges to over 150 kPa)
- Brake controller back to EMY
- Close BVICS (isolate BP)
- BC back to Run & Release
- Plus ensure head lights and Marker lights are set to AUTO
Basically cut out and put marker lights to white /Auto
Full Cab Unattended procedure (not ch/ ends)
- P.A ?
- marker lights WHITE
- reverser OFF
- park brake ON (button RED & PB light on FAULT & status panel is illuminated)
- Apply & Isolate :- (if we are returning to same cab):-
. BC to EMY
. Close BVICS
. BC back to R&R
-headlights & marker lights to AUTO
Modified Cab Unattended procedure
- Marker lights WHITE
- reverser OFF
- park Brake ON
( button RED & PB light on FAULT & status panel is illuminated) - BC step 7 (& remove keys)
- headlights & Marker lights to AUTO (after returning to cab)
What does secured mean?
- All cab doors & windows remain closed
- Unauthorised access to cab is prevented
- cab equipment is not operated
How do we cut in on a comeng?
- open BVICS (BP to charge to 500 kPa)
- lower Trip
- BC handle to EMY (BP to 0 kPa to reset trip)
- BC to R & R (to charge BP)
- BC to step 7 (BP = 550, EP/ RS = 250)
- insert portable
- insert TDN into DDU
- Inspect fault & status panel for fault indicators

585 - 725 kPa

Control Governor opens at
310 - 340 kPa
Control Governor closes at
400 - 430 kPa
Trip test BP must fall below
BP must fall below 150
Continuity test BP must fall below
300 kPa
In order to uncouple 3 things that are required (to use the uncouple button for it to work)
BVICS open

Reverser in neutral
What is the compressor gov connected to?
Compressor
What is control res out connected to?
Line breaker case
Trip
What will happen if you isolate the compressor gov iso cock?
Compressor will turn on because it reads zero air in main res
What is the safety valve set at?
775 kPa
What happens if you isolate control res out cock?
You cannot get power
No main res air will go to line breaker case
How do we reset VICERS?
Speed 0
Put Master Controller to 0
Wait 10 seconds
Push VICERS button
When will low press flag raise?
Main res is below 500 kPa
LOMV is de energized
BVICS closed
What will happen if there is a fault with line breakers ?
(2 -fault light + other)
Local light will illuminate (its equivalent to traction overload)
Traction motor cut out switch - what happens when it is operated?
Local traction motors / Rheo brake will not operate and any fault lights will extinguish
They can be isolated completely (all out)
Or in pairs (1 & 2 OR 3 & 4)
In pairs - must use the controller key
What happens when Control Circuit breaker trips (MRBOPC)
In lead car train will fail
In rear car FDCL will flash constantly
Aux control circuit breaker controls BADSCARS If tripped when saloon doors are open?
Train will fail
Emergency Marker lights have a 2 hour timer
How do we reset the system?
Turn marker light switch to any position and back to desired position in both leading and trailing cats
When will SPB apply automatically?
When MR is below 500 kPa
60 seconds reverser in Neutral
Reverser off
60 seconds after MA is started (circuit energized)
When does SPB release?
8km or above when reverser is not in OFF (linked to anti- neutralization device)
What are the master controller and reverser connected to?
Control circuit breaker.
It supplies 110vDC
If it trips CANNOT CONTROL TRAIN from that cab.
Train is disabled
What happens if we lose a PLC circ breaker?
FDCL flashes
What activates the DDU?
BVICS
What is the operational range of regulating valve?
380-410 kPa up to 550 kPa
What will happen if Compressor Gov is tripped?
(2 ans)
train lined ON /OFF SPB buttons on THIS car will not operate
Compressor will continue to operate
The CG will not monitor MR air pressure on that car..
What will happen if AUX CB is tripped?
Saloon doors and lights remains in currently state.
If doors are OPEN train will FAIL
What will happen if MARKER lights CB is tripped?
SPB panel light will not indicate if SPB is applied
Local & panel lights wont operate
Can you perform a running brake test in the Metrol controlled area?
No
