What must the driver do if there is a MR rupture in the MR tank?

A

Just isolate it:
- Close MR delivery ICs
- turn compressor contactor switch to off
(so compressor doesn’t continue running with nowhere to deliver air)
- isolate compressor governor CB (to stop other compresses operating continuously)

All pneumatic equipment on affected motor remains operative as the MR pipe is being supplied with air from the other MR’s on other carriages

  • Blank the pipe from the brake cylinders of number one bogie to the auto drain valve

A

Yellow tech AV on the trailing motor must be isolated.
Secure & raise
Otherwise the trip will not be raised and you will back trip.

Release the local Spring Park brake (van area) and then you’ll know if the fault is in fact related to this car

How do you rectify when pipe from MR to control Res IN has broken or is leaking?

A

-leak b/w control res tank & control res IN IC = isolate control Res IN IC

-pipe is broken on the MR side of control res IN IC
= blank the pipe or treat as a MR defect & motors to all out

-if you do not know where the pipe is ruptured isolate both IIN & OUT control res ICs and then check the MR pressure and see if it is recovering.
if it is not recovering then it’s the pipe from control res IN going to MR that is the issue

  • Turn trip IC in six cocks in the box van area
  • If in trailing motor turn yellow tech AV to avoid back tripping

Operate train as per whistle defects restrictions

How to rectify?

A
  1. Slap it (up & down several times)
  2. Open & close whistle cock, slap it again, check if it works
  3. Not in book but hold whistle lever down. While continue to hold it down, get a c/ e iso the cock, unisolate the cock & then check if it works

If still wont work, TMM & operate as per whistle defect restrictions

MR RUPTURES:

What applies in all cases ?
(When rupture is in any car what must always be done/isolated?

A
  • VICERS must always be isolated

-DLBP must always be isolated
- passengers must always be moved out if the car with ruptured MR & into other cars or detrained (comms doors to be locked)

  • Must always try to PLUG HOLE
  • must always close both MR end cocks if hole can’t be plugged
  • must always trip out EP & use auto air (lead will only have EMY though)
  • always run at a reduced speed :-

1/2 track max of 30 due to deflated airbags (and if rupture is in lead will be max 15km)

A
  • try plug hole / iso MR end cocks
  • ISO VICERS & DLBP
  • lower & iso pantos
  • motors - ALL OUT
  • Man release SPB
  • trip EP CB (EMY brake only in lead)
    (Must have c/e to recharge BP from other motor)
  • doors inoperative (pax go to diff car & comms doors locked)
  • trip compressor gov. - train lined SPB lost but trip CB back in to reset b/4 releasing SPB lost

IF NO C/e train is DISABLED

Speed = 15km/h (EMY brake only)

You will only have EMY BRAKE available as MR pipe is not continuous - only BP is continuous

  • Can only drive if CE avail to recharge BP from a different motor each time EMY brake is used
