How are the carriages numbered?
9 (1st no.) - HCMT train
2nd no - car no. In the set (numbered 0-9, 4,5 & 6 are missing)
3rd & 4th no.s - set number
How do you know which side is A or B ?
Leading car (Tc) - LHS is the B side for 1st 4 cars and then it changes to A side for the last 3,
How are the HCMT cars labeled?
TC - Leading and trailing cars (no motors)
DMP - 2nd cars from each end -,door motor pantos
MP1 & MP2 - cars either side of the centre car dmp 2 has the fire extinguisher)
DT - centre car
What is the Tc car?
Trailer Cab
2 trailer cars with a driving cab at each end
What is the DMp car and its equipment?
There 2 Door Motor Panto cars
- fire doors
- traction Motors
- Pantos
- Battery powered auxiliary compressors to raise the Panto
What is the Mp1 car and what equipment?
Motor Panto is the leading centre motor
- Traction motors
– Panto
What is the MP 2 and what equipment?
Motor pantograph 2, is the trailing central motor
- Traction motors.
- Pantograph.
- Fire extinguisher in a locked cabinet

What is the DT car and what equipment?
The DT car is the center car
- door trailer car.
- one fire door
How are doors and wheels numbered in a HCMT train?
In a zigzag pattern, starting from the A side, the A side are all odd numbered, and the B side even numbered
What are the access cards called to enable you to enter the train?
Electronic access system [EAS]
They consist of a control unit linked with the TMS via eTIS badge readers, and electric striker
How long must the electronic access system be held on the badge reader for it to work?
1 sec
When touching your card on the external badge reader, how long will the electronic striker remain unlocked for?
5 sec
- If you change your mind and don’t enter the cab, you must open the door and close / lock the door after 5 sec as it will remain unlocked otherwise
What is the HCMT train management system (TMS)
A computerized system which provides a centralized unit to control various functions, including
TETHOS
- train information system (eTIS)
- train data recorder
- smoke detection system
- electronic access system
- high-capacity signaling
- other systems
Many tasks can be performed autonomously
The TMS also reports important information about the condition of the train to DOWNER to assist with maintenance requirements
Where are the wheelchair ramps located?
Full-size ramps are in TC cars at no. 1 end
Doors 1&2
Portable ramps in DMP cars in cabinets next to doors, 1 & 2.
Where are the fire doors?
Fire doors are located on DMp and DT cars
