SIEMENS ELECTRICS Flashcards
Which circuit breakers will cause the train to fail if tripped?
FACES
• Friction Brake & Monitoring
• Automatic coupler control in the Leading Centre Cab
• Cab/ Train Manned
• Emergency Brake Valve
• Safety Loop
When will the Emergency Brake Apply AUTOMATICALLY?
TOMBS CV
• coupler fails resulting in the train dividing /
& semi permanent coupler fails between two 3 car units
• BCU Critical fault
• Overspeed exceeded
• A short circuit develops in the Safety Loop (S)
• Main res. Pressure falls below 600 kPa
• Trip is activated
• VICERS activated
Which items on the Safety Loop cannot be bypassed?
SEEMM
- Safety Loop MCB
- Emergency brake valve
- Emergency stop button
- Master Controller Handle/ EMY position
Plus also
- Master key switch
What items cause a critical defect fault light?
• A major failure of friction brake system
• A complete loss of Aux power in a unit (both SIVS failed)
• a wheel slip fault affecting the operation of the sanders
When you have a Critical Defect fault light what should you check if fault cannot be found?
Check the following MCBs
Friction Brake Monitoring on both Motors & Trailers
Static Inverter Monitoring MCB in the trailer
(F in faces)
Can the train still run with a Maintenance fault light ?
Yes
Which equipment can be bypassed by using the Safety loop bypass key switch
To bypass the Emergency Brake Safety Loop ?
COMBED V (acronym)
According to courseware:
BCU - Major Event relay
Overspeed relay
Deadmans devices (h/f)
ESB in non-active cabs
Coupler fail relay
Main Res Preassure Relay
Vigilance system ( VM40 still records though)
What does a surge arrestor do?
Protects the trains high voltage equipment by grounding surges of power from the overhead wire
What is the purpose of the high voltage container and what does it contain?
Collection point of the 1500 v DC
Sends 1500v DV TO Traction container and one SIV
Contains HSCB & ground switch
Contains a BCU which sends commands to Brake Module
What does HSBC do?
Disconnects traction equipment from overhead in event of power surges or short circuits
What does Traction inverter do?
Converts 1500 v DC to Variable 3 - phase AC to traction motors
What happens when a defect occurs on the Traction motors?
They self isolate
What do SIVS supply power to?
400v Ac to
Air con
Batt charger
Air compressor
TCU
240v AC GPO via step down transmitter
What equipment does Battery Charger supply 110vDC to?
B - charges battery
O - Other various control circuits & equip
L - Internal/ external lighting
D - Door system
E - EP braking equip
S - Safety Loop
T - traction control equip
C - Communication systems
BOLDEST C
What happens if one SIV fails?
Battery will get power from other SIV
Air con will operate at 50% rest as normal
How long can batteries last ?
1 hour max depending state they were in and what equipment is used
What power are pantos?
Electro mechanical
Where is the panto crank handle located? *
2nd cabinet behind door No 2
A side no. 2 end
Motor (DMA /DMB)
What must we do prior to raising panto manually?
Trip the Panto MOTOR MCB of the affected car
… once we have raised it
Press the self excite button
Activate cab
Press panto up button
Then reset the Panto MOTOR MCB
Do a panto test
If other pantos don’t raise trip the Panto motor MCB again and report TMM fault
How and why would we manually lower a panto?
If it’s defective
Stable train
Trip out Panto motor MCB
Manually lower using crank handle
Leave MCB tripped
Report TMM
What force is used to operate doors?*
Electro mechanical
What can the door control module do?
Sends commands from door release and close buttons to the door
Isolates defective doors and reboots computer attempting to rectify the fault
What is the door Control module button for? (Button button)
If door is not in sync with other doors, you press the button and it forces door in the opposite position
Button is to the left of each door
Door out of order indicator button illuminates when?
Illuminates when:
- a door has been isolated
- door control unit is defective
- flashes if door system has failed
When do door release buttons operate?
Only from an active cab
When the train is stationary
How long does the warning tone sound for when the driver presses the door close & lock button
4 seconds
The button will flash until doors close
After how long and
How many times will doors attempt to close when there is an obstruction
3 seconds
3 times
Remains open until driver presses door close button
Where are the DERs located?
LHS of every door
What indicators are there that a DER has been pulled?
DER indicator will illuminate in active cab
FDCL
Audible warning buzzer
CCTV will come on automatically
When key is in controller DER is very difficult to open but driver can respond when key is in
What can manually apply the EMERGENCY brake ?
• EMY stop Button
• MC into EMY
• any control that causes Dead Man feature to become active
• Master key switch in OFF position
• Tripping out the FACES MCBs
How do we reset the EMY brake?
Put MC into 0 - Coast once train is stationary
Which equipment is isolated /bypassed when Safety Loop key 🔑 is operated?
COMBED V
M • main res pressure relay
B. • BCU major event relay
D. • Deadman’s devices
C. • coupler fail relay
O •. Overspeed relay
E. • ESB in non- active cabs
V. •.Vigilance System (vm40 still records)
If you activate a cab does the trip automatically reset & lower?
No
It only lowers automatically
We must reset it
