HCMT Underframe Flashcards
Where are the Surge reservoirs?
2 at each end of Every Car
What do Surge Reservoir do?
Supplies compressed air to the airbag suspension at each bogie
What do the brake supply reservoirs do?
Supplies compressed air to the electro pneumatic valves to charge the brake cylinders
There is one on every car at no.1 end
What are the two different types of bogies used on HCMT trains?
Motor bogie on motor cars
Trailer bogie on trailer cars
The TC and DT cars are fitted with two trailer bogies each
All other cars are fitted with two motor bogies each motor bogies are fitted with traction motors on each axle
What are some of the other features on the bogies?
• Speed sensors
• Tread scrubber TC, car only
• One park brake per axle ( DMp, Mp and DT)
• Park brake, manual releases (as above)
• Primary and secondary suspension
What is a tread scrubber?
Similar to a brake block, it also has an isolation cock
What does the primary suspension consist of?
Rubber laminated springs serve as mechanical shock absorbers
How is the air suspension isolated?
You must isolated both bogies
Each cock isolates the surge reservoirs for one bogie
Do drivers test the sanders?
No the TMS system will test them automatically
Where are the Park Brakes located?
One per axle except for Tc cars
What type of coupling can be formed with the HCMT semi-permanent couplers?
Mechanical & Pneumatic for emergency towing
Non electric
How do we open the coupler cover?
• Unlock the locking mechanism
• WITH ASSISTANCE, raise the cover under control
• Utilise the 2nd locking mechanism
How many people must raise the cover?
Minimum 2 as per rules
Which Iso cock in the Brake Control module is the only one in the Tc car
Tread Scrubber
Where is the brake control unit located?
Inside the brake control module of every car
What equipment is part of the Auxiliary Power Supply system (SIV) and where is the equipment located?
• Auxiliary Inverter
• Medium Voltage Box
• Battery Charger
Located on on Trailer Cars (DT Tc)
How long do the batteries provide emergency power to the train for when the traction power supply OR the battery charging system has failed?
A minimum of two hours
(They provide sufficient battery power to enable normal operation, even after the train has stable for two weeks)
What does the air supply unit (ASU), consist of?
Also known as a compressor, the air supply unit, (ASU) comprises of
• Main Air compressor,
• air dryers
• filters
Where is the ASU (Air supply unit) located?
On all Tc cars
What is the purpose of the air supply unit?
To maintain main reservoir pressure within the operating range
What is the shore equipment for And where is it located?
Used by downer to electrically, and or pneumatically supply the train when it is undergoing maintenance in the workshop
(Its like a power point or a spot where they plug into the train so they can work on it without actually turning on or starting up the train)
Does the trip automatically lower and set when the driver turns the master controller key switch to on?
Yes
Where is the park Brake isolating cock located?
Inside the brake control module on Every car except the TC cars.
(The Tc Cars have the tread scrubbers instead)
Where is the high-voltage box? And what does it consist of?
Oh, HV high-voltage box consists of
• high Speed circuit, breaker,
• harmonic, wave detection device,
and it is located on All motorcars
