Siemens Pneumatics & Cab Equipment COMMS systems Flashcards
Holding brake pressure
110 kPa
B1 - B6 pressures
B1 - 57 kPa
B3 - B5 + 27 each step
B6 - 189 kPa
Emergency cylinder pressure
280 kPa
If a deadman’s switch (hand/ foot switches) is not set while train is above 0.2km/h what will happen? *
A tone will sound for 3 seconds and then EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLIES
Why are they called hand and foot switches and not pilot valves? *
Because they are operated electrically not pneumatically
How do we set hand switch?
Move 15* anti clockwise
What is VICERS comprised of?
2 sub units
Vigilance control system
Event recording system
What is the Vigilance Control System comprised of? (5)
• Task linking of driver controls (MC, whistle)
• VICERS acknowledgement button
• Buzzer
• Vicers Fault Indicator
• Vigilance Activation Valve/ Relay
What will reset the Vicers timer?
Operation of the
• MC
• whistle
• Vigilance button when it flashes
What warning will a driver get that vicers cycle has advanced towards EMY brake?
Vicers light flas for 5 secs
Audible buzzer for a further 5 seconds
If not pressed EMY brake applies
What will happen if VICERS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT BUTTON is held down for more than 5 seconds?
Emergency brake will apply
How will we know when to isolate Vicers?
A vicers fault light illuminates on the fault panel
If pantos are lowered does that shut down the train?
No we must press the stable button otherwise the batteries will go flat
Does the CCTV automatically turn on when cab is activated?
No you press the S button
Unless a DDA is pressed or a PEI is activated/ acknowledged
What does the wheel slip status light indicate?
Yellow illuminated indicator when wheel slip is detected
EP and sanders will operate (ED may
be removed)
When does overspeed indicator illuminate? *
When train exceeds 119 km/ h
When TDN is entered on DDU does driver need to also input into TDN to DTRS ?
No it transfers automatically
What indicates a DDA has been pressed?
DDA flashes WHITE 5 times and then remains steady
On pressing button CCTV will turn on
Cab to cab indicator?
Flashes yellow until acknowledged
PEI indicated how?*
Emergency Intercom button flashes Red
Tone emitted
CCTV activated once button acknowledged
Mic used to communicate with paxs
What button to communicate with passengers?
Cab to saloon
Yellow when on
Use mic to talk
Blue light flashing door close light can we get traction?
No
When can yellow door release buttons not operate?
When train is above 0.2 km/h
Cab speaker is activated when?
The switch is illuminated white
Default position is isolate on older trains
Need to unisolate to hear others speak
When a PEI call is made when / how does cab speaker turn on?
Automatically
What is EI (EMERGENCY INTERCOM) used for?
To respond to PEI CALLS
When will CCTV come up on a PEI call?
When PEI button is activated
What must be used to communicate with the passenger on a PEI call?
The microphone on the switch panel
To what equipment does BCU send electronic signals ?
To & from TCU for ED SERVICE braking
To brake Modules for EP
….Info is processed and adjusted (weight, speed of train etc) via pressure limiting valve.
Then pressure goes to relay valve which allows corresponding AUX res air to enter brake cylinders
When will EP take over during wheel slide on a DM car?
When braking effort falls below 90% of braking request
How can ED be reset if lost during wheel slip?
MC into zero or any powering position
for
1sec +
What does the Sanding Control unit operate in conjunction with?
BCU
& Wheel slip unit
Shen does a red LED illuminate on the sand boxes?
When sand level is below 20%
When do the sand heaters turn on?
When the temperature falls below 5’ Celsius
When are sanders non operational?
Below 5km/h
Do the sanders operate during ED braking or powering?
No
What will happen with Brake Cylinder pressure when MC is moved to B1, B2 or B3 if train is on a gradient?
It can roll as Brake Cylinder pressure will fall below Holding Pressure
