  • Civil Right’s Act- extended to women many legal protections as African Americans did

Women’s Liberation

  • 1960’s new & more radical feminist demands were approaching
  • They were more involved: civil rights movement, antiwar crusade, they faced discrimination from male leaders
  • By the 1970’s significant change was visible in women’s movement
  • New books by younger feminist, said for womwn to band together assault the male power
  • Early 70’s a great number of women began organizing against oppression and developing a culture of their own

  • Meantime women were making large progress in getting into the economic and political movement
  • Major all-male institutions also began opening doors to women

  • 1965 court recognized Griswold v. Connecticut, they abolished all laws prohibiting abortion during the “first trimester”
  • In 1973, Supreme Court made a decision in Roe v. Wade based on “right to privacy
