- Late 1963, the Kennedy administration helped pass the Equal Pay Act which, blocked the practice of paying women less than men for equal work
- Civil Right’s Act- extended to women many legal protections as African Americans did

- 1960’s new & more radical feminist demands were approaching
- They were more involved: civil rights movement, antiwar crusade, they faced discrimination from male leaders
- By the 1970’s significant change was visible in women’s movement
- New books by younger feminist, said for womwn to band together assault the male power
- Early 70’s a great number of women began organizing against oppression and developing a culture of their own

- 1971 gov. extended its affirmative action guidelines to include women
- Meantime women were making large progress in getting into the economic and political movement
- Major all-male institutions also began opening doors to women

Women’s Suffrage to Abortions

- women’s movement wanted to legalize abortion
- 1965 court recognized Griswold v. Connecticut, they abolished all laws prohibiting abortion during the “first trimester”
- In 1973, Supreme Court made a decision in Roe v. Wade based on “right to privacy
