It was a project that the Eisenhower administration started and when Kennedy was on office, the CIA had been training a small army of anti-Castro Cuban exiles in Central America. On April 17,1961, JFK approved 2,000 of the armed exiles to land at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. Troops were on their own and Kennedy withdrew air support fearing too much involvement of the U.S. It was a fail and the Cuban exiles were crushed. Berlin Crisis

After Kennedy met with Khrushchev in Vienna, Khrushchev was unhappy about the U.S supporting the noncommunist West Berlin. So in August 13, 1961, the East government, following orders from Moscow, started to build a wall between east and West Berlin. Guards shot anyone who tried to escape. For almost thirty years it served as a symbol for the communist and noncommunist worlds.
Cuban Missile Crisis

On October 14, aerial reconnaissance photos gave clear evidence that the Soviets had been placing missiles in Cuba because of American missiles in Turkey. But to Americans it looked like an act of aggression. On October 22, Kennedy ordered a blockade around Cuba, a “quarantine” against all offensive weapons. Later before a planned American air attack on the missile site The president received a message from Khrushchev implying that the Soviet Union would remove the missile bases in exchange for an American pledge not to invade Cuba. Also the removal of missiles from Turkey and the Kennedy agreed.

More than 200,000 demonstrators marched down the mall in Washington, DC, in August 1963 And gathered before the Lincoln Memorial for the civil rights demonstration. Martin Luther King Jr. Gave one of his greatest speeches “I have a dream” it was for the civil rights movement.

They were staged by African Americans and forced merchants to integrate their facilities. Later people who staged them formed the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) which kept the resistance going.
Martin Luther King Jr.

A great leader of the civil rights movement. He used nonviolence like peaceful demonstrations and urged Africans to freely be arrested, even beaten, and to respond to hate with love. He was the leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. When demonstrators marched in Washington MLK gave a famous speech “I Have a dream” in August 1963. Also in March 1965, he helped organize a major demonstration in Selma, Alabama, to press the demand for the right of blacks to register to vote. He helped win the passage of the Voting Rights Act. He died in April 4, Memphis, Tennessee. He was shot while standing on the balcony of his motel.

He was a senator from New York around 1967, and turned against the Vietnam war.
He entered the 1967 campaign and had substantial strength among blacks, poor, and workers to the anti war cause. He became champion among democratic primaries. He died in June 6, at the ballroom of Los Angeles hotel. Sirhan sirhan killed him because of a pro-Israeli remark. He got shot in the head.
