define warming up
A
gentle activity to prepare the body for exercise so that the chances of injury are limited

what does warming up consist of and why and provide examples
A
- activity to raise heart rate gradually to enable oxygen to get to the wokring muscles in a greater quantity e.g. walking, jogging, light swim
- stretching to increase range of movement at a joint to decrease chnace of injury e.g. active, passive, dynamic or static stretching
- higher intensity and activity-specific movements used in the sport e.g. drills/ tactics

- reaction time is improved
- injury chances are reduced as muscle elasticity inceases
- muscles provided with suitable nutrients
- heart rate is increased
- psychological preparation preparation for activity
- helps performer focus and increase motivation
