why is mental preparation sometimes added into a performers warm-up
to develop focus and confidence and become ‘in the zone’
define ‘in the zone’
being in a state of flow, whereby performance appears to be effortless, the performer is concentrating, has clear goals and is totally aware of themselves and their surroudnings
how does being fully mentally prepared benefit a performer
- develop high confidence levels
- controlling emotions and aorusal
- improving motivation
- improving concentration
- improving commitment levels

- imagery
- visualisation
- mental rehearsal
what is imagery
this can be done in several ways
- a performer may imagine themselves in a calming environment to reduce tension and arousal
- or can imagine the feeling of a movement or wathcing a recording of their own movement
what is visualisation
generally this is visualising a good performance in your head
what is mental rehearsal
picturing oneself performing the perfect performance
