characteristics and factors affectic aerobic/ anaerobic exercise Flashcards
1
Q
what factors affect which energy system is used
A
- amount of oxygen available
- intensity of exercise
- duration of the exercise
- nutrients available for fuel and recovery
2
Q
describe how intesnity effects which energy system is used
A
- low to medium intensity exercise is anaerobic
- high intensity exercise is anaerobic
- however the point at which the athlete starts to work anaerobically will depend on the athletes’ fitness levels
3
Q
describe how duration of exercise effects which energy system is used
A
- long duration activities tend to be aerobic as work for a long time but intensity tends to be low to medium
- short duration activities are often explosive and high intensity, meaning they tend to be anaerobic
4
Q
describe how nutrients affect which energy system is used
A
- low intensity aerobic events make use of fat and carbohydrates (glycogen)
- high intensity anaerobic events make use of creatine phosphate and carbohydrates (glycogen)
