Q
explain what variables affect a person’s potential to make use of the provision available
A
- Income: public and voluntary sector provision tends to be more affordable than private provision.
- Time available: if a person is working or studying all the time they will struggle to have the time to make use of the provision available.
- Motivation: making use of the provision available requires a certain amount of motivation. Those who choose a sedentary lifestyle may find it hard to motivate themselves to leave the house and make use of the provision available.
- Mobility: if a person lacks the mobility to get to or make the most of the provision available, then they are less likely to attend.
- Accessibility: certain areas of the country have very little provision available. Those living in inner city areas tend to have more choice of provision available as there are more people to pay for memberships (private) and there is greater demand for public facilities. Voluntary sector provision depends entirely upon the availability of people to give up their free time to help run a facility or club. Many rural areas have very few facilities available.
