explain how past successes influence physical activity
- performers are more likely to want to continue doing a sport or activity if the achieve some form of success.
- success instills confidence and makes the performer comfortable with the demands of that activity
explain how emotions influence physical activity
- Performers will experience emotions when they try a sport or think about an activity.
- If emotion is positive, they are more likely tto want to try that activity again.
- If they fear something or do not think they would enjoy it, e.g. it was too physical for them, they are less likely to attend.
explain how feedback influences physical activity
- If a performer receives feedback from a coach, parent or peer, the detail within the feedback can significantly influence their future choice of activity. For example, beginners tend to respond better to positive feedback than to negative feedback as negative may harm their confidence.
explain how coaching influences physical activity
- The coach who introduces a performer to a sport can influence their future choice of activity.
- Positive, knowledgeable coaches who help performers to improve are more likely to encourage them to continue to attend compared to a coach who is negative and lacking in knowledge.
explain how facilities influence physical activity
Performers can be encouraged to take part in an activity if they have access to high quality facilities that are not available in other parts of the country.
explain how schooling influences physical activity
The school PE curriculum and the teachers teaching it can strongly influence what a person decides to take part in. Sometimes it depends what the school staff provide in terms of extra-curricular clubs.
explain how peers influence physical activity
A person’s peers can influence their choice of activity. If they attend a club that their friends also attend, they are more likely to continue participating as they enjoy the social interaction as much as the sport. Performers may also see a peer perform well and gain confidence that they could also replicate their performance.
explain how family infleunces physical activity
Family perception and attitude can affect a person’s choice of activity. If a performer mentions an activity at home, and receives a negative reply, they are less likely to continue that activity (and vice versa).
explain how culture/ religion influences phyiscal activity
As a person understands their culture and religion more as they mature, they may well understand that certain activities and sports are deemed more acceptable than others for their cultural/religious circumstances.
