What does the data show:
+ The pro-Brexit Conservative Party performed better in Leave areas than in Remain areas.
+ Labour, while performing poorly overall in 2019, did far worse in Leave-voting constituencies.
+ The Liberal Democrats, who campaigned to ‘Stop Brexit’, did better in Remain constituencies than in Leave constituencies.
Regional voting role
Region plays an important part in the way people vote, but perhaps it is too closely linked to economic conditions and to class to be considered the sole determinant of voting behaviour.
Now that the UK has left the EU, it is difficult to determine how important the issue of Brexit will be in perpetuating regional voting patterns.
