A

Potentiates effects of inhibitory neurotransmitters. ↑ the seizure threshold. Induces amnesia and sedation. Short acting anticonvulsant.

Valium: Indications

A

Acute anxiety states and agitation, acute alcohol withdrawal, muscle relaxant, seizure activity, sedation (intubation, cardioversion); may be helpful in acute symptomatic cocaine OD.

Valium: Adult Dose

A

Seizure activity: 5-10 mg IV/IO at 5mg/min repeated 10-15 PRN. Max dose 30mg.

Pre-Cardioversion: 5-15mg IV/IO over 5-10 min
