Dopamine Flashcards
Dopamine: Generic Name
Dopamine
Dopamine: Trade Name
Intropin
Dopamine: Class
Sympathomimetic, vasopressor, and inotropic agent
Dopamine: Action
Small doses (0.5–2mcg/kg/min) stimulate dopaminergic receptors, producing a renal vasodilation.
Larger doses (2-10mcg/kg/min) stimulate dopaminergic and beta-adrenergic receptors, Producing cardiac stimulation and in renal vasodilation.
Doses greater than 10mcg/kg/min stimulate alpha adrenergic receptors and may cause renal vasoconstriction. ↑ cardiac output, ↑ blood flow and improved renal blood flow
Dopamine: Indications
Adjunct to standard measures to improve BP and Rx of cardiogenic shock or septic shock, post resuscitation and CHF with pulmonary edema
Dopamine: Contraindications
Hypovolemic shock, tachydysrhythmias
Dopamine: S. E.
N/V, HA, a regular or rapid pulse, CP, AMI
Dopamine: Supplied
For MG vial or prepackaged 1600mcg/mL solution in 250mL
Dopamine: Adult Dose
Renal/mesenteric effects: 2-5mcg/kg/min
Beta-adrenergic effects: 2-10mcg/kg/min
Alpha-adrenergic effects: 10mcg/kg/min (↑ PRN)
Dopamine: Precautions
Cautiously use: hypovolemia: MI, occlusive vascular disease, pregnancy and children
