Blocks absorption of sodium and chloride at the distal and proximal tubules and the loop of Henle, causing ↑ urine output
Lasix: Indications
Acute pulmonary edema, pt with SBP 90 (without S/S of shock), edema with CHF, HTN emergencies
Lasix: Contraindications
Anuria, severe progressive renal disease. Hypovolemia. Suspected electrolyte imbalance. Hypersensitivity. Rarely used in peds, pregnancy, breast-feeding mothers
Lasix: S. E.
Vertigo, HA, dizziness, dehyration, orthostatic hypotension, abd pain, N/V
Lasix: Adult dose
0.5-1mg/kg IV/IO over 1-2m, consider doubling to 2mg/kg in no response
Lasix: Pedi dose
1mg/kg IV/IO
Lasix: Considerations
Vasodilation should occur within 5m and diretic effects within 30m. Being phased out due to nephrotoxicity and success with CPAP
