A
  • Metabolic acidosis from circulatory insufficiency from shock of severe dehydration
  • ASA OD
  • Prolonged cardiac arrest
  • Tricyclic OD
  • Known hyperkalemia
  • Crush injuries
  • Phenobarbital OD

Bicarb: Precaution

A

Not recommended for routine use in cardiac arrest. Inactivates nor-epi and dopamine; forms a precipitate with calcium. Use caution with elderly with renal/cardiac failure with or without CHF. PRN in tricyclic OD until QRS narrows
