stopped by the spleen during development
The right kidney
Stopped by the liver
Adrenal (Suprarenal) Gland
Each kidney on the superior pole
Renal Veins and Renal Arteries
Artery: Blood from aorta to be filtered by the kidneys
Veins: return purified blood to the inferior vena cava, joined left testicular vein
Ureter
Drains urine from the kidney
Composed of three smooth muscle layers, two circular with an intermediate longitudinal layer
Peristaltic Waves of contraction to facilitate the passage of urine from the hilum of the kidney to the urinary bladder
Penetrating the posterior wall of the urinary bladder
Urethra
Discharges urine from the urinary bladder
Urinary Bladder
Is composed of smooth muscle arranged in swirls and line with transitional epithelium
Transitional Epithelium
Undergo alterations in shape depending upon the extent of stretching
Internal Sphincter of the Uretha
Smooth muscle
External Sphinter of the urethra
Skeletal Muscle
Urethra
quite short in female, longer because it passes through the penis
