The Nephron (Histology, low power magnification) Flashcards
Glomerulus
First Component of the nephron unit
Ball shape collection of capillaries
Glomerular Capsule
Bowman’s capsule
Surrounds the glmoerulus
Proximal Convuluted Tubule
first urine formed from the filtered blood
highly curved canal found within the renal corext
Proximal refers to location to the glomerulus
Loop of Henle
Henel = Man
U-shaped next location for filtration
Dips into the deep corext and the renal medulla then a sharp turn into the superficial renal cortext
Distal Convoluted Tubule
Next part of filtration
Collecting tubule
Drains the distal convouted tubule
Collecting Ducts
Drain the collecting tubules
Papilary Duct
Drain the collecting ducts throughout the cortext and the medulla
Form the renal pyramids
Efferent Arteriole
Takes blood from the capillary bed of the glomerulus, (leaves the glomerulus)
Peritubular Capillaries
Wrap around the perimeter of the nephron tubules.
Modifies the composition of the urine
