Typical Vertebrae (Thoracic) Flashcards
Vertebral Body
Ventral surface
Resists the compression forces of the spine
All vertebrae except C1 have this
As one goes down the vertebrae, vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs become larger
Neural Arch
Extending Posteriorly from the vertebral body comprises a ring of boney tissue
Includes three prominent bony projections, Transverse Processes (2) and Spinous process
Vertebral Foramen
Created by neural arch and the vertebral body
Protect the spinal cord
Pedicles of the neural arch
located on each side btwn vertebral body and the transverse processes
Laminae of the neural arch
Btwn the transverse processes and spinous process
Intervertebral Foramen
Space btwn the pedicles of two adjacent vertebrae creates an opening for the passage of spinal verves
Pedicle Notch
Indentation seen on the superior surface of the pedicle that helps to form the intervertebral opening
Superior and Inferior Articular Facets
Adjacent vertebrae articulate by the way of these small bony projections from the neural arches
Costal Facets
Form attachment of ribs
Superior and inferior costal facets
Extend from the vertebral body
Transverse costal facets
Project form the transverse processes
Blood Pressure Test are Life Saving
Body -> Pedicle -> transverse process -> Lamina -> Spinous Process
