The Nephron Glomerulus Flashcards
Afferent Arteriole
Penetrates the glomerular capsule bringing in blood to be filtrated
Glomerular capsule
Made of simple squamous epithelium surrounds the glomerulus
Glmoerulus
Collection of capillaries
Efferent Arteriole
drain the glomerulus
Vascular Pole
Afferent and Efferent arterioles come out of the glomerulus
Podocytes
Spider like cells that wrap around the capillaries
Have long cytoplasmic processes that prevent large molecular from entering the urine
Urinary Space
Space inside the glomerular capsule, that contain the elements to be passed in the urine from the capillaries of the glomerulus
Urinary Pole
Made of simple cuboidal epithelium of the proximal convoluted tubule
Proximal convoluted tubule
Made of simple cuboidal epothelium
Contain microvilli extending into the lumen
Greatly increase the total surface area
Juxtaglomerular Complex
Jutxa (nearby)
Responsible for the release of hormones that help to control blood pressure.
Includes specialized cells within the afferent Arteriole
Where the distal convoluted tubule curves near the vascular pole
Juxtaglomerular (JG) Cells
Adjacent to tall, tightly packed cells in the distal convoluted tubule, (Macula densa Cells)
