Atypical Vertebrae Flashcards
C1
Does not have neural arach and transverse processes
Provides “yes” motion
Bifid Spinous Process
Found in cervical vertebrae only two through six
Provides for site of neck muscles
C7 has a long spinous process and is not bifid
Sacrum
Triangular bone formed by the fusion of five vertebrae
Superior surface of the sacral body
Location that articulates with the firth lumbar vertebrae
Auricular Surfaces
Where two pelvic bones articulate
Superior articular processes
Two
Equivalient to superior articular facets
Sacral Vertebral Canals
Spinal cord only extends to L1 and L2 vertebrae
This allows for spinal nerves to go further.
Sacral foramina
four on each side that correspond to intervertebral foramina
provide openings for the passage of sacral spinal nerves
Median sacral crest
Located on the posterior surface and represent the fused spinous procsses of five sacral vertebrae
Coccy
Human tail bone
Consists of four fused vertebrae
small triangular bone
Cornu of the Coccyx
United to the apex of the sacrum throuhg a small synovial joint that incules an intervertebral disc
Can fracture this bone = long heal time
