Why does a patrol supervisor need to respond to certain scenes or incidents?
When an incident may require a command element.
Whenever I observe a disabled motor vehicle, should I stop?
Yes, unless a call or assignment prohibits me from doing so.
Should I remain with a disabled vehicle?
Depending upon time of day, weather conditions, location of the vehicle or other variables, I should stay with the disabled vehicle.
Stranded motorist may remain in department vehicle for safety and warmth and members may transport operators or occupants to another location for their safety, where arrangements can be made for further assistance
What qualifies a motor vehicle pursuit?
Is justified, when the necessity of the apprehension of the suspect outweighs the risk created by the pursuit.
You shall not pursue a fleeing vehicle into another state UNLESS:
The reason for the stop is for a felony, AND you are authorized by the Troop duty officer to continue into another state.
If a violator fails to stop when signal to do so, and operates in such a manner as to avoid capture, members, must first recognize the potential risk to public safety before initiating a pursuit consideration, should be given to tactics that reduce the opportunity for a suspect to evade apprehension
If the degree of danger to the public, the pursuit member and/or suspects is greater than the need for immediate apprehension a pursuit should not be initiated, or if in progress should be terminated

When a pursuit for a civil infraction, misdemeanor or nonviolent felony, enters a densely populated area

What is deliberate contact?
Intentional contact with a violators vehicle in order to functionally damage or force the violators vehicle to stop. This is considered a use of deadly force may only be initiated when the violator poses an imminent threat.
When should tire deflating devices be considered?
This is an effective option for bringing a pursuit to conclusion for passenger vehicles only.
