What is paramount concerning the transportation of detainees?
The safety and well-being of themselves and others
Proper restraints to prevent escape injuries
Safety and rights of person arrested
Notify the desk officer/intake officer of any medical issues prior to the arrival at the barracks
When shall a cruiser be searched?
Part of the routine cruiser inspection at the beginning of a shift and before and after transporting a detainee .
If transporting a detainee can I respond to calls for service?
No, not unless the situation clearly poses a serious risk to others and the risk to the detainee is minimal.
Interruption of transporting detainees.
Limited circumstances that require immediate intervention, example, personal injury, crash any disruption will be reported to the desk officer of jurisdiction.
Long distance required for stops, fuel food, personal necessity detainee provision at all times
If transported for an extended period of time may handcuff in front or use Waze chains, if you’ve been trained on their use
Alternative restraint device shall only be used an authorized.
How many detainees can I transport at one time?
Not more than 2 at a time, unless authorized by a supervisor
Not transport 2 detainees in a cruiser without a safety barrier, unless another member is present.
The transfer of a detainee must be?
Documented in DAJ.
If a detainee is a security hazard, suicide risk, or has it condition that the receiving agency should be aware of the receiving agency shall be notified, and advised in writing of that condition.
If transporting a physically or mentally challenged person, the transporting member should use discretion as to the type of restraints used and also notify who?

Can a detainee or individual in custody be allowed to participate in any operation and or/function?
Not without the specific written approval of the division commander.
Section/units that conduct such operations or functions on a regular basis may obtain BLANKET AUTHORIZATION from the their division commander.
Detainee escape what do I do?
Immediately notify the appropriate desk officer, and make every attempt to recapture the escape if unable to preserve the scene for tracking and investigators.
If I’m on the desk, notify the Troop duty officer of jurisdiction immediately.
If I am the TDO and a detainee escapes, what do I do?
Immediately request, canine, airwing, tactical Resources as necessary
Dispatch a supervisor to assume control of the recapture operation and have them prepare reports with findings and recommendations
I am also to notify SPDU and the troop commander.
Who assures that members who fly armed are adhearing to protocols under their command on commercial airliners?
Troop/Section commanders
What is the first step if I am to fly armed?
GHQ comms sends the TSA via NLETS a unique Alpha numeric identifier receipt for the member who will be flying armed.
Member shall be certified and follow the federal transportation, security administration guidelines, and code of federal regulations, carriage of weapons by law-enforcement officers.
If I am flying armed, what shall I carry with me on the day I travel?
The receipt requested by GHQ from the TSA for verification.
In addition to the TSA receipt, what else should I carry with me on the day I fly armed?
Appropriate number of signed original Letters of authority from my Troop/Section commander and surrender said letter to airline carrier when requested.
If transporting a detainee on a commercial flight who shall I notify?
Notify TSA of all names, accompanying members at least 1 hour before the flight.
