What is a department holding facility?
A temporary confinement cell or lockup where detainees are generally helped the less than 72 hours.
What state agency shall department holding facilities comply with for minimum equipment?
Department of Public health
This includes access to a wash basin if held in excessive 8 hours.
In addition to a written emergency evacuation plan posted, how many emergency exits shall be marked with a sign?
1 preferably 2 emergency exit shall be marked with a sign.
Who ensures that a guidebook is kept at the desk, or in the holding area of each facility to assist the station desk officer?

How often am I supposed to receive training on holding facility/temporary detention room and my role associated with them?
Retraining to occur at least once every three years.
According to MGL upon promotion, what shall I receive refresher training in?
Suicide, detection, intervention, and prevention
What documented inspection should be made of each cell immediately prior to use?
An inspection for weapons and contraband shall be made immediately prior to use.
What DAILY inspections are station commanders, responsible for?
Fire detection, and suppression (visual)
Cell bars, doors, locks, windows, ventilation, lights, monitors, and security devices
First aid kits
Tampering or damage to facilities
Search for weapons or contraband
Sanitation, including vermin, and pest inspection .
What WEEKLY inspections are station commanders responsible for?
Watchmen device inspection
Watchmen print out report of previous weeks cell checks
Watchmen report, examination for compliance and discrepancies
Watchmen report retention weekly printouts, ensure kept for 1 year
What are the MONTHLY inspection items for station commanders?
Automatic fire alarm system test.
What are the SEMI-ANNUAL inspections for the station commander?
Fire suppression equipment, test
The review of the guidebook for accuracy .
What are the ANNUAL inspections for the station commander?
Administrative review of holding facilities and procedures to be completed concurrent with the department of public health inspection.
Who shall station commanders make written reports to on incident or conditions that threaten the holding facility, or any person there and including detainees , or the ability of the barracks to safely hold detainees?
Troop Commanders (of course, chain of command)
If a station commander reports bad incidents or conditions that threaten the facility, the Troop commander shall notify through channels who?
The division of administrative services commander, Michelle K Smalls Who in turn shall notify the department of Public health as required.
