Granting Sick Leave:
Granted at the discretion of the Colonel
-Personal illness OR injury.
-The presence of the member at their work location with jeopardize the health of others through the exposure to a contagious condition
-The member spouse, child parent or spouses parent or relative living in the members household is seriously ill in the event a limit to the amount of leave the member can use is set by the CBA and federal and state laws
Supervisors shall be informed of; (for sick leave)
The nature of the illness or injury, and anticipated duration of absence if known;
The location of their recuperation in a telephone number ;
Any duties or schedule appearances may require attention
Sick leave in excess of 5 consecutive work days :
If using sick leave in excessive 5 consecutive workdays, the member may be required to undergo medical examination or provide documentation from a licensed medical practitioner to determine their fitness for duty.
How many hours before your next schedule shift should you called to cancel sick leave?
8 hours
Members utilizing sick leave, may leave the Commonwealth of Massachusetts only:
With authorization of their commanding officer
To obtain medical care prescribe with their licensed medical practitioner
Members utilizing sick leave maybe ordered to remain at a reported place of recuperation. A reasonable time period away from the location is allowed to:
-obtain services or products consistent with medical care
-Vote or attend religious services
-Attend to an emergency situation
-to other matters with the permission of their supervisor
Reason to suspect SL abuse in general (SP 382)
Notify the member using the SP 382 abuse of sick leave form. This advises the member that future sick leave may be subject to extra scrutiny.
Reason to suspect abuse in a particular instance (SP 383)
Notify the member using using the SP 383 submission of medical evidence form. The member is required to be satisfactory medical evidence by subbing the SP 384.
Supervisors may call or visit the member at their place of recuperation to verify the sick leave. This should NOT be done between between what hours?
