Toxic Ingestions and Exposures Flashcards
mydriasis, tachycardia, hyperthermia, sedation, coma, twitching, seizure, hypotension, arrhythmia
cholinergic inhibition
severe bradycardia and hypotension with the development of pulmonary edema and bronchospasm
beta adrenergic blockage
severe bradycardia, electrocardiogram findings of AV block.
calcium channel inhibition
initially asymptomatic or mild nausea and vomiting that proceeds to jaundice and abdominal pain, markedly elevated liver function tests with 24-48 hrs.
fulminant hepatic failure- acute acetaminophen overdose
treat with activated charcoal and N acetylcysteine. liver transplant is the only curative procedure in the case of fulminant damage
arrhythmia, conduction disturbances, severe hyperkalemia
digoxin overdose
treat with anti digitalis antibody.
diarrhea, defecation, urination, miosis, bradycardia, bronchorrhea, bronchospasm, emesis, lacrimation, salivation
CHOLINERGIC POISONING by organophosphates!!
treat with atropine
DDUMBELS (acute cholinergic poisoning)
therapy for methanol overdose
ethanol + fomepazole/methypyrazole
influenza like symptoms of malaise, fatigue, increased work of breathing, change in mental status, nausea, vomiting, skin becomes cherry-red
acute carbon monoxide poisoning
tachycardia, shock, altered mental status, seizures, vomiting and severe, blood tinged diarrhea, smell of garlic
arsenic poisoning
smell of almonds
cyanide
