Examguru Hematology Oncology Flashcards
small lymphocytes on peripheral smear that are very fragile
chronic lymphocytic leukemia or small lymphocytic leukemia
marked leukocytosis and well differentiated myeloblasts
CML- use tyrosine inhibitors
leukoblasts with hairy projections and TRAP positive
Hairy cell leukemia- no tx unless symptomatic
more than 20% blasts on bone marrow biopx
AML
less than 20% blasts on bone marrow and cytopenia
Myelodysplastic syndrome
less than 20% blasts on bone marrow biopx and hyperproliferation of myeloid cells
Myeloproliferative syndrome
MPDs =
essential thrombocytopenia, polycythemia vera, myelofibrosis, mastocytosis
asymptomatic patient with a depressed myeloid cell line
MDS
del5(q)
MDS –> AML
IgM spike on electrophoresis
Waldenstrom’s
IgG spike on electrophoresis
Multiple Myeloma
secondary polycythemia
CO poisoning, sleep apnea, high altitude, steroid abuse, paraneoplastic EPO synthesizing drugs
what forms of polycythemia vera have increased EPO?
all of them EXCEPT polycythemia vera
decrease in all three hematopoetic cell lines in the presence of an inciting factor
aplastic anemia- fibrosis of marrow
“N TIME2”
Neutropenia, Thrombocytopenia, Infections, IgM (decreased), IgE (increased)- Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome
