Q

What did Britain do?

A

Stanley Baldwin pressured the French Prime Minister Leon Blum to abstain from getting involved via the non-intervention treaty of August 1936. He did this to avoid a Bolshevik-style revolution and communism. The treaty was signed by France, Germany, Italy and the USSR. However, Hitler and Mussolini broke it and started to support General Franco.
