Women were expected to raise large families
1) Their freedom was supressed as the Nazis believed they should stay at home to nurse children, clean and cook
2) They were banned from being lawyers in 1936, and the Nazis did their best to stop them from following other professions
What was the League of German Maidens
It was an idea created by the Nazis that it was an honour to produced large families for Germany. The Nazis gave awards to women for doing this and encouraged more women to marry by offering financial aid to married couples
What was expected of Women?
They were expected to dress plainly and were discouraged from wearing make-up and smoking. At school, girls studied subjects like cookery. It was also stressed that they should choose ‘Aryan’ husbands.
How did Hitler manage to solve unemployment?
He started a huge programme of public works, which helped to reduce unemployment e.g. from 1933 jobs were created as a result of the construction of Autobahns (motorways).
How did his policy towards conscription change?
He re-adopted it and encouraged German Industry to manufacture more ships, aircraft, tanks and weapons for the military. This also helped reduce unemployment.
What happened to Trade Unions?
They were banned and workers had to join the Nazi’s labour front instead. The Labour Front acted like one big Trade Union, but controlled by Nazis. Worker conditions were poor.
How was day-to-day life bettered by the Hitler and the Nazis for German people?
The Nazis wanted German workers to believe they were an essential part of the Volksgemeinschaft.

The Nazis introduced this as the ‘people’s car’ as a luxury you could aspire to have one day. You could get one.
What was ‘Strength Through Joy’?
A scheme which provided workers with cheap holidays and leisure activities.
What was’ Beauty of Labour’
A scheme which encouraged factory owners to improve conditions for workers
How did the middle class feel?
They felt better off
How did workers and business owners miss out?
1) The cost of living rose about 25%-but wages didn’t go up
2) Workers couldn’t go on strike or resign
3) Small businesses were taxed heavily
