How did Hitler achieve Anschluss?
Hitler claimed that Schuschnigg was unjustly persecuting Austrian Nazis and started to advocate that they support Anschluss.
Where did Schuschnigg and Hilter meet?
They met at the Bavarian mountain retreat in February-Schuschnigg was bullied into making Seyss Inquart Minister of the Interior by Hitler.
Who was Seyss Inquart?
He was an Austrian Nazi
What did Schuschnigg want?
Schuschnigg requested a plebiscite to be held to decide whether Anschluss should be allowed. However, Hitler did not want this as he could lose!
What did Hitler propose on 11th March?
He proposed Schuschnigg with an ultimate decision. Either he would resign and hand over power to the Austrian Nazis, or be invaded. Schuschnigg appealed to France and Britain for help.
What happened next?
When no response was heard from either Britain nor France, Schuschnigg resigned and Seyss Inquart became chancellor that same day.
What was the first thing that Seyss Inquart did?
He immediately wrote to Hitler asking for German troops to be sent to restore order. However, Hitler’s army were one step ahead and were being breached to enter Austria. They entered without a single bullet fired and were welcomed enthusiastically.

10th April

99.75%-this was an extraordinary success for Hitler
