What was the pact of Steel?
A
Hitler and Mussolini wanted to formalize their alliance and build off of the Anti-Comintern pact of 1937. This was know as the Pact of Steel and was signed in May 1939.

What was its purpose?
A
It was a 10-year military and political alliance

What did it declare?
A
1) Trust and cooperation between Italy and Germany
2) That each side would economically and militarily support the other in the event of a war
3) Neither country could make peace without agreement by the other

How did this benefit Hitler?
A
it greatly strengthened his diplomatic hand after the Munich agreement and Czechoslovakia-Italy was his formal ally in the case of war.
