International Labour Organization (ILO)
The ownership of innovation by and individual or business enterprise.
Intellectual Property (IP)
Employers have the right at any time, with or without prior notice, to hire, fire, demote, or promote whomever they choose for no reason or any reason.
Employment at-will (EAW)
Employees may not be fired without cause if this would violate state or federal laws.
Public Policy Exemptions
Difficult to prove but can be created through certain employer actions, promises, or statements made by individuals or the organization as a whole.
Implied contract exemptions
Applies in only a few states. It restricts actions that are seen as unjust or malicious.
Covenant of good faith and fair dealing exemption
Intended to be legally binding and usually signed at hiring, aim at safeguarding the employer’s right to protect its business by restricting the employee’s behavior during and after employment.
Post-Employment Agreements
The employee agrees not to discuss knowledge gained during employment.
Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
Prevents an employee from leaving to work for one of the employer’s competitors.
Non-Compete Agreement (NCA)
Broad statement that reflects and organization’s philosophy, objectives, or standards concerning a particular set of management or employee activities.

Has supervisory system to hold countries accountable and offers technical assistance to member countries.

Prohibits interference from public authorities and the requirement of authorization by employers
Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize

Protects workers from retaliation and obligating employers to negotiate with unions
Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining

Prohibits forced and compulsory labor, except for military service, prison, and emergencies (e.g., war, natural disaster)
