Talent Selection Process Flashcards
The process of evaluating the most suitable candidates for a position.
selection
What are the steps in the selection process?
screen > interview > assess & evaluate > select & offer
Analyzing the candidates’ application forms, curricula vitae, and resumes to locate the most-qualified candidates for the open job.
selection screening
Sometimes called “automated tracking systems” or “electronic pre-employment screening,” such systems provide an automated way for organizations to manage the entire recruiting process, from receiving applications to hiring employees.
applicant tracking systems (ATS)
Designed to prove areas of interest to the interviewer in order to determine how well the candidate meets the needs of the organization.
selection interviews
- Assess skills the candidate has already learned.
- Measure a variety of mental abilities, such as verbal and mathematical skills, logic, reasoning, and reading comprehension.
cognitive ability tests
- Attempt to measure a person’s social interaction skills and patterns of behavior.
- Report what might be described as traits, temperaments, or dispositions.
personality tests
- Measure the general ability or capacity to learn or acquire a new skill.
- Look at a person’s innate capacity to function.
- Predict learning and training success.
aptitude tests
- Require a candidate to demonstrate a minimum degree of strength, physical dexterity, and coordination in a specialized skill area.
- Based on key job duties and responsibilities; they are appropriate only if the primary duties and responsibilities of the job require such abilities.
psychomotor tests
- Not necessarily a place but rather a method of assessing higher-level managerial and supervisory competencies.
- Require candidates to complete a series of exercises that simulate actual situations, problems, and tasks they would face on the job for which they are being considered.
- Usually last at least a day and up to several days.
assessment centers
- Organize and summarize information in terms of selection criteria.
- Identify and rank acceptable candidates.
- Collect additional information as necessary.
- Make an offer to the top candidate.
Decision process
Organizations may make a job offer that is contingent on the candidate passing certain tests or meeting certain requirements.
contingent job offer
An oral or written communication that formally offers the applicant the job.
employment offer
Written agreement between the organization and an employee that explains the employment relationship.
