Testing for group 2 ions and anions Flashcards

1
Q

How can we test for So4^2- and CO3^2- ions?

A

= barium chloride
= forms a white precipitate when added

Ba2+ + Co3^2-= BaCo3
Ba2+ + So4^20

Q

How can we test for carbonate ions?

A

= add hydrochloric acid and nitric acid
Obsvervation: efferescence
= forms co2 and h20
Co3 (2minues) + 2H+ ==> co2 + H2O
