Testing for group 2 ions and anions Flashcards
1
Q
How can we test for So4^2- and CO3^2- ions?
A
= barium chloride
= forms a white precipitate when added
Ba2+ + Co3^2-= BaCo3
Ba2+ + So4^20
2
Q
How can we test for carbonate ions?
A
= add hydrochloric acid and nitric acid
Obsvervation: efferescence
= forms co2 and h20
Co3 (2minues) + 2H+ ==> co2 + H2O
3
Q
How can we test for So4^2-?
A
= adding hcl
= Bacl2
= forms barium sulfate which is a white precipitate
4
Q
How can we test for mg ions?
A
= adding hydroxide ions
= Mg2+ + 2OH- ==> mg(OH)2
5
Q
What do we say if there is no observation?
A
= there is no visible change
