Q

What is the mechanism for the dehydration of alchols?

A

= lone pairs on oxygen molecule
= attracted to the positive hydrogen ion from the acid catalyst- forms a covaletn bond
= positive oxygen aotm
= pair of electrons in covalent bond between carbon and oxygen move onto oxygen molecule
= causes molecule of water relewased
= pair of elecyrons between a carbon and hydrogen form a double bond
= H+ ion
= alkene is formed
