Making a standard solution: Flashcards

1
Q

What is the first step?

A

= calculate the mass needed
= using moles: mass/mr
= concentration: mass(moles)/volume
= place weighing bottle on balance at zero
= add the mass of the solution to the balance around the mass and re-weigh the bottle and the mass

What is the second step?

A

= transfer to a clean 250cm^3 beaker=
= re-weigh the empty bottle and record
= add about 50cm^3 of distilled water and stir until dissolved
= pour the contents into a volumetric flask- make the volumetric flask up to the mark using distilled water using a pippeye fpr small amounts
