Soc21 Planes And Axes Flashcards
What are planes?
Planes are theoretical divisions that divide the human body into sections, there are 3 planes of motion in the body.
What is the sagitall plane?
The plane that divides the body vertically, resulting in a left and right side.
What are the types of movements that can occur on a sagital plane?
Flexion and extention
What is a sporting example moving on a sagitall plane?
A sommersault
What is the frontal plane?
The plane dividing the body vertically, resulting in a front and back side
What are the movements that can occur on a frontal plane?
Adduction and abduction
What is a sporting example moving on a frontal plane?
Cartwheel
What is a transverse plane?
The plane that divides the body horizontally, resulting in a top and bottom
What is the type of movement that can happen on a transverse plane?
Rotation
What is a sporting example moving on a transverse plane?
Twist jumps when trampolining
What is an axes?
An imaginary straight line around something that turns, allowing movement to take place on one of the planes
What is the frontal axis?
The axis which moves from side to side
What movements are allowed on a frontal axis?
Flexion and extension
What is the sagitall axis?
The axis running from the front to back of the body
What movements are allowed on the sagitall axis?
Adduction and abduction
