- the sport may be too demanding for certain age groups
- some competitive events have age
- work and family responsibilities for a person middleaged
- some more suitable for the younger age groups
Do you have more of a chance of becoming an elite athlete if you come from a wealthy backround?
- people less likely to be involved in sports if come from a low socio economic backround
- most activities associate with costs (e.g hire facilities)
- your socio economic group can assosicate with the sports you get into from a young age
Can someones ethnicity and religion impact their participation in sport?
- it can influence whether we play sport and what we choose to play
- racism is still an issue in sport which can affect whether someone chooses to play sports
- in countries like tonga, figi… rugby is part of their culture
Are people with a disability less likely to participate in sport
- opportunites for disabled people in sports are increasing
- they are unable to compete in certain activites
- some solutions have been made for them to compete (wheelchair football)

Who influences you to play sports
- most influences come from people arround them (friends, family)
- people of the same age, socio economic class and interests are likely to participate in the same sport
- successful sports people become role models which will inspire others to take up their sport
Deviance
Behaviour that falls outside the norms or what is thought to be acceptable, goes against the moral values or laws of the sport
Negative deviance
Deviance that has a detromental effect
Positive deviance
Deviance where there is no intention to cause harm or break rules
Sportsmanship
Qualities of fairness, following the rules or being gracious in defeat
Gamesmanship
Bending the rules / laws of the sport without actually breaking them
