3 different classes of levers
First class, second class, third class
Acronym for class of lever
FLE
FLE
- first class = fulcrum in middle
- second class = load in middle
- third class = effort in middle
Example of first class lever
Tricep dip, heading a ball in football
The tricep dip (first class)
In this example, the elbow is the fulcrum which sits between the load (weight of your body) and the effort applied by your tricep
Example of second class lever system
Standing on your tip toes
Standing on tip toes second class lever system
The body weight (load) sits between the toes (fulcrum) and the gastrocnemius muscles which is applying the effort
Example of a third class lever system
The bicep curl
Biceo curl - third class lever system
Effort is applied by the bicep which sits between the load (the dumbell) and the fulcrum (elbow joint)
Mechanical advantgae
Output is greater than the input (load is greater than the effort) means the load can increase (1st and 2nd)
Mechanical disadvantgae
Greater input than output
