system thinking
the ability to asses the business as a whole rather than individual parts operating in isolation. important managers understand that one area of business will impact another through interrelationships and being aware of external factors that may necessitate change. all of the other 4 principles need to be implemented as they work together
personal mastery
is where the individuals within the business are committed to continual learning. employees work towards a vision of themselves and personal mastery. businesses need to build an environment that allows employees to learn and follow their passions. creates a learning organization that creates a climate where the status quo is challenged
mental models
deeply ingrained assumptions, images and generalisations that influence how we see and act. theses directly Impact behavior. during a transformation, the business and people need to look at themselves and scrutinize what they do. the business must challenge the way people within the business do things to encourage an understanding and to see out side the box
shared vision
being able to develop a vision that the people within the business believe in. people will excel and learn not because they are told but because they want to. they will see the long term big picture, commit to the business and drive towards transformation. a vision needs to be shared by all people not just leader.
team learning
process of aligning and developing the capacities of a team to create the results they truly want to see. although individuals have different skills, they need to act and learn together to grow more rapidly. this is achieved through open communication as well as personal mastery and shared vision.
the learning organisation
the learning organization is a business that is flexible, adaptive and productive. continually learn to work together at their best. he found that businesses that are more flexible, adaptive and productive will excel during times of rapid change
