employees resist change
employees resistance to change is often associated with fear, as altering roles and job security are frequent recurrences in a business change. their negative response to the change through negative comments to each other and customers bring down morale and affects productivity, therefore effecting quality, productivity, and reputation.
low risk- communication
communication is the transfer of information both verbally and non verbally. it involves being open and honest so that employees fully understand the direction. through the use of two-way communication, the employees are able to voice there opinions and concerns. provide the employee with the who what there builds trust and grind support
advantages: questions answered
disadvantages: time-consuming when there are large numbers
low risk- empowerment
where employees are given the authority to be involved in the change process. this means employees help design and implement change to help get them on board. requires a level of trust in employees which can help gain there support. they are also less likely to resist ideas employees have been involved in making.
advantages: new fresh ideas and how it implements employees personally
disadvantages: conflict with different ideas and time consuming
low risk- support
is showing empathy towards employees going through change. supporting employees emotions and functions who are facing hardship due to the change. if employees lose employment due to change they can be supported in finding new employment.
others may find the changes difficult and can be supported by training, counseling and consultation.
advantages: employees are given time to adapt, develop a strong culture.
disadvantages: expensive and time-consuming
low risk- incentives
providing incentives can help gain support for the change. this could involve promotions, trade-offs, and special benefits for the reassurance that change will not be blocked. incentives come in many forms such as promotions and bonuses. help employees accept change and work towards a new state
advantages: feel valued disadvantages: only support because they receive something in return. expensive
high-risk manipulation
quickly gain support from employees by the selective use of facts or deception. can reduce resistance because employees are likely to be told the benefits of the change without knowing the negatives
harm morale and culture if employees find out.
advantages: gaining support is quick and inexpensive
disadvantages: cause conflict and increase resilience if employees find out

a business will use force to make employees embrace change or face retribution. threats include retrenchment, loss of promotion. demotion, working conditions. employees embrace change quickly although cause resentment and harm relationships
