ΚΩ. δοκεῖς μοι, ὦ Στρυμόδωρε, εἰς ἀπορίαν τινὰ κταστῆναι.
“Don’t cover up your perplexity, feeling ashamed in front of Euergides, but tell me what is perplexing you.”
μὴ οὖν ἐπικάλυπτε τὴν ἀπορίαν, αἰσχυνόμενος τὸν Εὐεργίδην, ἀλλὰ λέγε μοι ὃ ἀπορεῖς.
STR. “I will tell you , Komias, what is perplexing me.”
ΣΤΡ. ἐγώ σοι ἐρῶ, ὦ Κωμία, ὃ ἀπορῶ.
“Why did Apollodoros mention Lysias and Metenaira?”
διὰ τί μνείαν ἐποιήσατο ὁ Ἀπολλόδωρος τοῦ Λυσίου καὶ τῆς Μετανείρας;
“For I don’t remember.”
οὐ γὰρ μνημονεύω ἔγωγε.
“And, by Zeus, I would like to remember what the contestant says.”
βουλοίμην μεντἂν νὴ Δία μνημονεύειν ἃ λέγει ὁ ἀντίδικος.
“Would that I could remember everything he says, and I’m damned if I can remember.”
εἴθε μνημονεύομαι πάνθ’ ἃ λέγει, καὶ ἀπολοίμην, εἰ μνημονεύω.
“For how could anyone cast his vote justly, if he cannot remember the arguments?”
πῶς γὰρ ἂν δικαίως τιθεῖτό τις τὴν ψῆφον, μὴ μνημονεύσας τοὺς λόγους;
KOM. “It it is difficult for the juror to judge the case if he can’t remember everything that the prosecutor says.”
