Renal stuff Flashcards
What can be used for
Glaucoma, idiopathic intracranial HTN (pseudotumor cerebri), altitude sickness, met alkalosis
carbonic anhydrase inhib acetazolamide
Mechanism of acetazolamide in kidney?
Less bicarb reabsorption, you bring down pH
Side effect of acetazolamide?
Met acidosis
Hypokalemia
nephrolithiasis
It is a sulfa drug! (thiazides and loop diuretics are sulfa drugs)
How does mannitol help acute kidney injury?
Brings osmotic load to force shit through kidneys even if they don’t want it
Mannitol adverse effects?
Hyponatremia early from dilutional affect
Then it goes to kidney, so it pulls osmotic dieresis through kidney then ULTIMATELY GET HYPERNATREMIA!!
Moniter sodium and osmolarity
PULMONARY edema b/c more pressure!
What is torsemide and bumetanide?
Other loop diuretics (along with furosemide and ethacrynic acid)
____ides
oh ok
What is metolazone?
Thiazide like HCTZ and chlortahlidone
Post MI treatment includes aldosterone antagonist
Same with CHF (reduce mortality)
Portal HTN in combination witb furosemide
OH OK
edema from nephrotic syndrome you should give what diuretic?
LOOP
