Regulation of Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 4 major respiratory center groups
A
Dorsal- most fundamental role (not really anymore)
Ventral
Pneumotaxic
Apneustic
2
Q
What is the dorsal respiratory group’s function, where does it get messages from
A
Controls inspiration and rhythm
CN 9/10 send sensory information to DRG
Receives signals from peripheral chemoreceptors, baroreceptors, and lung receptors
3
Q
What is the “ramp” signal?
A
Motor signal transmitted from DRG to diaphragm is not instantaneous
Signal begins weak and increases for 2 seconds
Stops for 3 seconds to allow for expirations
4
Q
What controls the “RAMP”?
A
- Control of the rate of ramp signal increases- Increases during activity
- Control of limiting point at which ramp increases- Earlier the ramp ceases, shorter the duration of inspiration, frequency of respiration increases
5
Q
What is the pneumotaxic center?
A
