Route of administration for racemic epinephrine
Nebulized for inhalation
Onset/Peak/Duration for racemic epinephrine
O: 5 minutes
P: 5-15 minutes
D: 1-3 hours
Adult dosages for racemic epinephrine
Bronchospasm:
dilute 5 mL (1%) in 5 mL normal saline
Pediatric dosages for racemic epinephrine (4 yrs or younger)
Bronchospasm:
0.25 mL of 2.25% inhalation solution mixed in 3 mL normal saline
or
0.5 mL/kg of 1 mg/1 mL epinephrine (1:1,000) mixed in 3 mL normal saline
Max dose: 2.5 mL
Special considerations for racemic epinephrine
Drug can increase adverse reactions when administered with another sympathomimetic drug
Pediatric dosages for racemic epinephrine (4 yrs or older)
Bronchospasm:
Up to 0.5 mL of 2.25% inhalation solution mixed in 3 mL normal saline
or
0.5 mL/kg of 1 mg/ 1 mL epinephrine (1:1,000) mixed in 3 mL normal saline
Max dose: 5 mL
