lidocaine Flashcards
Trade name for lidocaine
Xylocaine
Class for lidocaine
Antidysrhythmic
Standard supplies for lidocaine
Prefilled syringe
Premix bag
MOA for lidocaine
Suppresses ventricular ectopic activity
Increases the threshold of V-Fib
Indications for lidocaine
V-Fib V-Tach Ventricular dysrhythmias: -Frequent premature ventricular complexes and couplets -Monomorphic wide-complex tachycardia
Contraindications for lidocaine
Known hypersensitivity
Premature ventricular complexes in conjunction with bradycardia
Second and Third degree heart block
Adverse reactions to lidocaine
Drowsiness
Confusion
Anxiety
Dizziness
Routes of administration for lidocaine

Infusion
Onset/Peak/Duration for lidocaine
O: 1-5 minutes
P: 5-10 minutes
D: 10-20 minutes
Adult dosages for lidocaine (v-fib and pulseless v-tach)
1.0-1.5 mg/kg
May repeat the dose 0.5-0.75 mg/kg every 3-5 minutes during resuscitation
Maximum dose 3 mg/kg
Pediatric dosage for lidocaine (v-fib and pulseless v-tach)
1 mg/kg
May repeat the dose one time in 3-5 minutes during resuscitation
Special considerations for lidocaine
Consider decreased dosages for elderly patients and patients with liver disease due to their slower metabolic function
An infusion pump should be used to administer the drug when possible
Adult dosages for lidocaine (ventricular dysrhythmias with a pulse)
1.0-1.5 mg/kg
May repeat the dose 0.5-0.75 mg/kg in 5-10 minutes
Maximum dose 3 mg/kg
Adult dosages for lidocaine (maintenance infusion)
2-4 mg/min
Pediatric dosage for lidocaine (ventricular dysrhythmias with a pulse)
1 mg/kg
May repeat the dose in 5-10 minutes
Maximum dose 3 mg/kg
