What is the purpose of the palliative care CPG?
To provide paramedics with guidance in managing patients who are registered with a community palliative care service and call an ambulance due to new or escalating symptoms.
What symptoms are likely to be experience by patients with palliative care registration?
Nausea/vomiting, pain, agitation/anxiety or dyspnoea
What is the intent of the treatment plan for palliative paitents?
Provide relief from distressing symptoms, not treat the underlying disease process.
Who does this CPG apply to?
Only paints with an advanced, incurable;e disease who are no longer receiving active treatment and are currently registered with a community palliative care service that express a wish to stay home.
What may cause agitation in a palliative care patient?
Pain, hypoxia, hypotension, sepsis, urinary retention and electrolytes imbalances
