What is the goal of pre hospital headache managment?
TO provide interim relife for pain until a diagonis and more appropriate managment can be provided
Can paramedic administer asrin for a headache? Why?
No dont administer asprin
Incase of ICH anti-coagulatory propitory of asprin could worsen the bleen
What is indicated for a sevre headache?
Paracetamol and prochloperazine irrespective of nausea and vomiting.
When is proclorperzaine not adminstered?
If suspected ICH or SAH it may be ommited as it will offer limited benifit. If there is CNS depression it is contraindicated
What are the warning signs of an intracranial event?
Thunderclap- sudden onset abnormal neurological findings new onset headache in older paitents >50 or with cancer HX altered concious or colapse seizure activity fever/neck stifness
What should be ruled out before following this guideline?
Suspected stroke or TIA, Seizures and meningococcal septicemia
What is administered to any severity of headache?
Paracetamol 1000mg/500mg
with or without
Prochlorperazine 12.5mg IM
What other treatment should be follwed for a sevre headache?
After 15mins
can adminsiter fentynal under the pain CPG
what is the aim level of the pain?
